Bangladesh started its nuclear journey on 02 October 2013 with the inauguration of the first phase of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant construction. The main purpose of the study is to find out the impacts of Rooppur Nuclear Power plant on the environment, social economy and socio-cultural elements at surrounding areas of the proposed site. Field observations, household surveys, FGD, key informant interviews, daily newspapers, google engine, journal articles, reports, and other relevant sources were used to collect the data. To fulfill the objective of the study, environmental impact value (EIV) tool was applied. After observing and calculating all the components, authors were found positive impact on socio-economic impact (+198) and negative impacts on environmental parameters (-65) and socio-cultural parameters (-130). Finally, the project's total score (+3) indicates the project has a moderately positive impact on the social economy and environment and suggests that the project is acceptable. The significant positive impacts of the Rooppur nuclear power plant will be industrial and infrastructural development, economic growth, employment creation, knowledge transfer, river excavation, tree plantation, no greenhouse gas emission if the project follows national and international laws and legislation, a proper environmental management plan, strong cyber security, and free from any corruption or illegal activities.

This study explores the modality and trip chaining patterns of individuals in Dhaka, Bangladesh. We use household-level trip data for a day collected from randomly selected respondents of the Dhaka Metropolitan Development Plan area. We found that walking and rickshaw are the dominant modes of travel. The majority of individuals are unimodal and mostly depend on either walking or on rickshaws. Individuals generally walk for the first and last-mile connections to public transit. Cars are used more for non-home-based business trips. Personalized modes such as cars, cycles, and motorcycles are present at a higher proportion in the super complex trip chain than other types of chains.

All across the world, solid waste is a part of everyone's daily existence. Municipal solid waste refers to the majority of non-hazardous solid waste from a city, town, or village that requires frequent collection and transfer to a processing or disposal location. Solid waste management is critical in every community in Bangladesh because it prevents households from being exposed to the dangerous effects of solid waste. Rapid population growth exacerbates the problem of solid waste management. According to a survey, Bangladesh generates roughly 22.4 million tons of waste per year. When waste is not adequately collected and disposed of, the rate of waste generation is predicted to climb to 220 kg/cap/year in 2025, posing major environmental and health hazards. Methods: Direct interviews guided by questionnaires were utilized to gather data for this study, which assessed consumers' trash disposal practices and satisfaction with waste disposal facilities. Purposive sampling or judgmental sampling should be used in this research. Because the purpose of this study is to determine the users' waste disposal capabilities, the researcher should gather data from households that regularly dispose of waste. A total of 384 people was considered for sampling out of a total of 144440 people. Each factor's level of satisfaction was scored using a 5-point Likert scale, ranging from strongly agree to strongly disagree. The Pearson Correlation Matrix (PCM) was utilized to evaluate the association between waste disposal service parameters. Result and Conclusion: Increased domestic and household activities in urban areas are linked to the generation of large amounts of domestic waste, according to this study. Some of this garbage is clearly dumped on the streets, drains, pits, and adjacent vegetation. In their neighborhood, about 83.3 percent of respondents discovered inappropriate dumping sites. Almost 46.9% of those polled agreed that the neighborhood lacked an appropriate dustbin. Almost 63 percent of respondents said that the waste container is in the way of walking, implying that people discard their garbage on the streets. Solid waste management services were dissatisfied in 70.3 percent of the community's houses. The majority of respondents were dissatisfied with garbage collection patterns as well as the high cost of employing private collectors. This study aims to identify the effect of seasonal land surface temperature variation on the COVID-19 infection rate. The study area of this research is Bangladesh and its 8 divisions. The Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform has been used to extract the land surface temperature (LST) values from MODIS satellite imagery from May 2020 to July 2021. The per-day new COVID-19 cases data has also been collected for the same date range. Descriptive and statistical results show that after experiencing a high LST season, the new COVID-19 cases rise. On the other hand, the COVID-19 infection rate decreases when the LST falls in the winter. Also, rapid ups and downs in LST cause a high number of new cases. Mobility, social interaction, and unexpected weather change may be the main factors behind this relationship between LST and COVID-19 infection rates.

Bangladesh has emphasized active transportation in its transportation policies and has encouraged its population, especially the youth and students, towards bicycling. However, there is a scarcity of studies that have examined the factors important to the choice of active transportation that can be referenced to support the initiative. To address this research gap, in this study, we explore the influence of sociodemographics and latent perceptions of a built environment on the choice to walk and bicycle among students and nonstudents in Rajshahi, Bangladesh. In Rajshahi, we conducted a household survey between July and August, 2017. We used a modeling framework that integrated choice and latent variable (ICLV) models to effectively incorporate the latent perception variables in the choice model, addressing measurement error and endogeneity bias. Our models show that students are influenced by perceptions of safety from crime, while nonstudents are influenced by their perceptions of the walkability of a built environment when choosing a bicycle for commuting trips. For recreational bicycle trips, students are more concerned about the perceptions of road safety, whereas nonstudents are concerned about safety from crime. We find that road safety perception significantly and positively influences walking behavior among nonstudents. Structural equation models of the latent perception variables show that females are more likely to provide lower perceptions of neighborhood walkability, road safety, and safety from crime. Regarding active transportation decisions, overall, we find there is a difference between student and nonstudent groups and also within these groups. The findings of this study can assist in developing a sustainable active transportation system by addressing the needs of different segments of the population. In this study, we also provide recommendations regarding promoting active transportation in Rajshahi.
